The project will make Big West one of the cleanest and lowest emissions refineries in the United States.
- Builds six new units on the refinery’s existing
property — using innovative technology to ensure high reliability, energy efficiency, low pollution and greater safety.
- Produces clean fuels on-site that meet the
California Air Resources Board’s standards.
- Produces an additional 1.2 million gallons
a day of clean gasoline and diesel — enough fuel to supply all of Kern County — which will help stabilize local fuel costs.
Project Overview
The Clean Fuels Project will increase gasoline and diesel production at the Big West refinery by 65% without increasing the amount of crude oil processed. Big West will be able to produce an additional 1.2 million gallons of clean gasoline and diesel fuels every day, equaling 4% of California’s gasoline needs and 12% of its diesel needs. The increased volume of fuel production at Big West will be enough to supply all of Kern County, which will help prevent area fuel shortages and stabilize costs at the pump.
