Operating seven days per week, 24 hours per day, to provided a wide range of products, Big West of California, LLC must ensure that all refinery equipment operates efficiently and safely.
Under company and industry standards, in addition to State of California safety mandates, Big West maintains a regular schedule of equipment inspections.
At regular intervals, the refinery conducts what is called a turnaround, a major inspection of key equipment such as the crude unit, hydrogen plant, hydro cracker, and coker amine system, among others.
Certain equipment, piping and tankage, must be thoroughly inspected at five or ten year intervals. However, between such regularly scheduled inspections the refinery maintenance department continuously checks operational requirements such as changing catalysts needed to facilitate the refining of crude oil.
Regular equipment inspections are vital to refinery operations, ensuring it's viability as a supplier of energy vital to California and the local area.
